Printing, Mailing, and the Nine Hundred Cells of Professor Segolo
A little over a month has passed since you received the most recent issue of THE BIRD OF PASSAGE. Perhaps some pieces of it remain with you. Perhaps they've faded to murky memories you resist accessing. Perhaps it just wasn't your thing. Regardless, the bond created between you and the text is tangible, and when the rumor of an offer to receive a copy--a copy to keep!--worms its way into your ear, you can't help but mull it over. Is there any value to holding and keeping printed material in this day? The idea sits with you a while, and eventually you form a response.
Hi, anyone who might be reading this. Thanks for checking out the Zine! It's something I've wanted to do for years, and it's been immensely gratifying to have it out there in the world and accessible for people to read. Now I'm onto the next phase of my big plan: printing and mailing! I've done a few test prints, and I think it looks pretty great (greyscale with a splash of red, be still my heart), but am eager to try a slightly heavier weight paper. This will also be necessary to drop it in the mail, as right now it flops in half the second you set it on a table's edge.
A proposition, then: do you want a copy? I will send you one! I suspect it will only take a single Forever stamp and three wafer stickers to mail within the continental US, and I designed the back panel to leave plenty of room for mailing regulations. Since this is a testing situation and the post office is not in the best spot right now, I want to do this for free. All YOU will need to do is follow me on Twitter (@jasonhwardell) and send me a DM an address. I promise to only use this to send you this Zine, and then I'll delete the DM!
If you really, really like it, you can Venmo me (@Jason-Wardell-2) a couple bucks or whatever. Not a requirement, but will help offset the cost of printing and mailing. Just don't do it until you have the Zine in your hands, OK?
Also, work is progressing on Volume 1: Issue 2! This issue is comprised of a single, long-form adventure, which completely derailed my attempts to get the Zine off the ground when I started writing it at least a year ago. I may need to recruit some playtesters in the near future, so please drop me a line here or on Twitter if you'd like to be a part of it! I'll be happy to mail you a printed copy of the finished version as thanks.
I think that's good for now. I have some more exciting stuff (alternate forms of distribution, musical accompaniment, leveraging obsolete technologies) in the works, but none of it is quite ready for prime-time. Please enjoy this sneak peek of Issue 2, and may the Bird find you before too long!
